Mrs Dixon has a passion to ensure that all students have the best opportunity to flourish and succeed, she has taken a leading role on the Governing Body of both Selston and Jacksdale Schools ensuring that the 16 head teachers she has worked with are challenged but supported in their aim to ensure that local students receive the best possible support and help to realise their potential.
Mr Maher, current head teacher of Selston High School says: "Mrs Dixons is a most worthy recipient of such a prestigious award. As a resident of Jacksdale who herself was educated here she joined the governing body initially to help support her own children at the school, now 42 years later with her grandchildren both at Selston and Jacksdale she continues to give her time on a voluntary basis and really has made an outstanding contribution to the futures of local youngsters.
Betty describes how she was handed the letter by local postman as she was leaving for a meeting at school. On opening the letter in the school car park she was amazed and honoured but had to keep the news confidential until the official announcements were made.
Betty explains how she has always liked to keep busy and be involved in the local community. She has found being a school governor demanding but rewarding and hopes to continue to strive to ensure that local children receive the best education available.
